Finally was able to get my SLR build out...decided to go for it and put it right on the fox den.

Looks good. How long will you leave it out before checking?

Probably a couple days. I'm a little nervous as its in a pretty high traffic area. I'm excited but not getting my hopes up too much as I think there might be a bit of a learning curve with the settings.

Good luck Jeremi. I'll be watching.

...ok...here's an update...

So I checked the cam the other day...it took almost 1200 photos over 3 days...unfortunately most were pure white...almost like the image sensor is going. A few that did have an actual photo, didn't turn out too bad, but the fox was always on the very far left edge of the frame...some were blurred quite a bit, and "ghosted".

I had the cam set to "Av" (apature priority) and ISO400

So I brought it back home...cam seems fine and takes nice images. I disovered though when hooked up to the board, the flash seems to flicker, like a strobe light, and won't actually take a photo. I did some checking on the settings, and There's a focus setting called AI Servo, so I set it to that now and am using Program settings instead of Av. Seems to be running good again at home, so I'll charge it back up and throw it out on the den again this week.

I'm impressed with the quality of the images and depth of field it gives...with the few pics that did turn out.

I try to use mine in auto as much as possible and just manual focus...the camera will take a fast picture and still change quickly at night or a cloudy day. It does take some time to find the best settings for all kinds of weather plus day or night, that's why I use auto in the sports setting.

If the flash flickers it might be trying to focus, that's the biggest problem at night and the reason I try to use manual focus as much as possible.

Can't wait to see some pictures of the fox kittens with the new setup.

Thanks Cliff. Yeah I was thinking about trying that sports setting...and it does seem to fire faster and more reliably on manual focus. I'm also using the pop-up flash for now. Do you know if there's a way to run it on Auto flash when the flash is "popped-up"? Seems to me that when it's up it's going to fire no matter what.
