If it isnt killed the cat will come back. When it returns depends on the cat. At least in Alberta, male and females treat their kills differently. Researchers found males often make a kill, feed on it for a day or too and move. They are driven to patrol their territory, ready to risk losing a kill for a chance to mate. I have found this to hold true. Sometimes i have waited a month before a tom returned. Good luck.
The cat has been following the pattern of a male you described. He shows up for a few nights and then is gone for several days. I think it's been somewhere between 5 and 9 days between visits.
I'm only getting updates from a friend checking the cam. I haven't seen pictures yet. If all goes as planned I may be able to get my hands are the cards tomorrow night. About 800 pics to review so far. The cam was last checked yesterday and the cat had just shown up the night before. Could very well be more from last night. It has been interesting to get the updates. There is one quarter left before its last visit. Might be getting near the end of picture opportunities.
